Teaching is Dr. Tareef Hayat Khan's passion. He loves to teach. He has decided to become a teacher very early in his life. Teaching is in his blood too. His mother was a teacher in Bangla Literature. Besides, from the musical family that he belongs, teaching music was part of their lives. So, be it architecture, music, or sports, Tareef always had the zeal to teach.
He started his academic career with Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST), in Dhaka in 1996 in the department of Architecture. After earning the doctoral degree, he started teaching in Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPolyU), and also worked as a visiting lecturer in the University of Hong Kong (HKU), and at Zheijiang University in Hang Zhou, China. Moving to Malaysia, he started to teach in the department of Architecture in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), in Johor Bahru, until 2018. He has joined as a faculty member in the School of Architecture in Prairie View A&M University at Texas, USA, during the Fall Semester, 2018.
Besides teaching at undergraduate level, he has also been engaged in teaching at postgraduate levels. He is also actively supervising Master and PhD students. 5 PhD students and 7 M.Phil students have graduated under his direct supervision. 14 M.Arch students have completed their thesis under his supervision. He has also supervised numerous B.Arch Final Thesis Projects during his tenure at the various Universities he workrd for. He had so far completed 10 Research Grants worth USD 100,000 (appx), all of them as Project Leader.
